The lid of my septic tank isn’t closing properly?

For safety reasons and to ensure the effective running of your septic tank system, it is vital that the lid to your septic tank must be securely fastened. If for any reason your lid won't close properly, you will require an urgent septic tank repair.

You should keep the tank access lid fastened to the riser at all times with stainless steel lid bolts. If the bolts are lost or damaged, or if the lid or riser becomes damaged, immediately block access to the tank opening, and keep children and other people away from the tank until you can arrange a septic tank repair.

Other septic tank safety tips:

Tank entry – When it comes to the tank itself, you should never attempt to enter your tank if you require septic tank help. An underground tank is considered a dangerous confined space. Therefore you need specialised confined space entry training and procedures in place before you can enter a septic tank to carry out work. Attempting to do this without the correct training, procedures or equipment could result in death from asphyxiation or drowning.

Opening the lid – Of course, it is also vitally important to keep tank openings closed and bolted, and children well away from openings if they happen to be opened or bolts are removed for any reason.
