The alarm on my septic tank is going off – what should I do?

Most modern septic tanks are equipped with systems to identify any septic tank failure, including alarms to notify you of any issues or problems as they occur. Usually, an alarm will sound, which is similar to a smoke alarm.

If your septic tank alarm goes off, there could be a number of reasons why your alarm may have activated, included a septic tank failure. The most important thing to do is to take immediate action to correct the problem in the event of an alarm condition, by contacting a service person to inspect your system immediately and establish what issue has occurred.

We recommend knowing where your wastewater system and its electrical control panel is. So, when reporting a fault to one of our technicians, you can let us know the panel's model and UL number (inside the door panel).

Often if you hear an audible alarm, you can silence this by pushing the lighted button, which is found directly above the "Push to Silence" label on the front of an electrical control panel. While it varies depending on the type of septic tank system you have, normally a septic tank has a reserve storage capacity, which will last for 24-48 hours.

In the event of a septic tank failure or alarm event, call us straight away on 0800 735 464 because the problem will need to be fixed as soon as possible. Our team are on call 24/7 and will come out and do a full septic inspection to get your issue sorted, and remedy any septic tank failure that has occurred.
